Demarcation and Reclamation

Interesting things happening in Brazil, where there is a President who is, surprisingly for us Northerners, not interested in preserving the grossly profitable industries of illegal ranching and farming, and who is interested in finding solutions for his poor citizens in ways that maximize Brazil's resources (things like the Amazon rain forest, the lungs of our planet) in sustainable fashion.

After the death of Sister Dorothy Stang, Lula became empowered enough to enact radical changes, all of them aimed at guiding Brazil into something more sustainable and equitable. Over 80% of Brazil's citizens live below the poverty level, so these methods are vital for their well-being.

Who has profited? Like so many of the South American countries going through these cultural crises, the 20% of the Wealthy population holds on to government with a stranglehold, often supported from "outside." But here is this President who was, for the first time in recent Brazilian history, voted into office, and who feels allegiance to preserving the rights of his people.
