US Seeks NATO Aid

Does anybody see anything wrong with this?
The United States asked NATO on Thursday for help in transporting European aid to victims of Hurricane Katrina amid concern that assistance is not getting through to the devastated region quickly enough.
Oh! I get it! The reason that the US Coast Guard had to do rooftop rescues alone; the reason that the survivors locked in the Superdome and the Convention Center lived in squalor and false hope, the reason that our President neglected to push any legitimate leadership on our country during this crisis is because we were apparently waiting for NATO to do it!

Foreign aid is a vital component in getting our country out of mourning and into anything like normalcy. But the rush to get NATO assistence itself is silly. If they'd put half the effort a week ago into building up and responding to this, we wouldn't be so concerned; and NATO relief would be just that: foreign relief aid rather than necessary foreign aid.

To our many foreign friends who have offered such an array of aid and assistence, our hearts and minds are warmed. Thank you so much. Many of us Americans hope that this reinforces an idea within the American culture that we are part of a greater global community; and going it alone is foolish and impossible.
