Katrina's Oil 10 Days Later

[The AntiCentenarian is experiencing something similar to an emotional breakdown following the incredible disaster on the Gulf Coast. Many of our readers may have noticed this in shorter, less thought-provoking posting. There will be an AntiC emotional respose to the severe failure of the United States Government in the next few days. Until then, all we can do is point to the obvious. Today: More Oil]

The Oil impact of Katrina should be taken very seriously; as the entire disaster should be. This is a watershed disaster. There are infinte things we, as a society, desperately need to evaluate and seek to understand in Katrina's wake. First, and foremost, we need to grasp what the role of government must be in the lives of Americans. Many of us feel betrayed, at an utter loss, because we had implicitly understood that the United States would, no matter who was in charge, do absolutely anything to aleviate the suffering in the hours following something so traumatic; and we saw none of this occur. This is something we will be talking about and considering closely in the coming weeks and months.

Likewise, we need to re-evaluate and assess the American system of consumption. Katrina is, still, a valuable introduction to Peak Oil, something all Americans should consider. As the prices of oil increase exponentially following the Katrina disaster, Americans should understand that, when it comes to oil, this is only the beginning.
