Live 8 DVD

Just picked up my Live8 DVD. 4 discs of concert goods- this particular collection is easily incomplete, and weighted toward the Hyde Park and Philadelphia concerts. But there are collections of each venue available soon. And please consider Live 8 at Eden, as well.

I'm watching now, and struck by the spectacle of it. The audacity, the immenseness of these demands- an end to the condition of extreme poverty in our lifetimes. We are the first generation with the economic and social capabilities to accomplish that task. And the examination of global community- the positive threat of accountability. Reportedly 3 billion people watched Live 8 concerts on television, and several million saw them live- all of those people participating in the pressurization demanding the West's leaders step up to the task of ending extreme poverty.

Live 8 didn't accomplish the grandness of the ideal it set out to - the G8 summits were marked not only by the concerts but by the terrorism attacks in London - but it absolutely galvanized a global community unlike has ever before been seen. It did not "unify" political perspectives under the auspices of charity- it created perspective.

So, several months later, go shill some merchendise. I can't say it's "worth" it, but I am struck by the scope, the positive widening of political hope and demands. Check it out. It'll be a good stocking stuffer, etc.
