The Diplomatican Treaties

Bush and more-friendly new German Chancellor Angela Merkel today discussed the likelihood of taking Iran to the UN Security Council. Iran has stated that this move will push them to refusing UN nuclear investigators into their borders, ending international nuclear cooperation with them, but the EU and most western states find Iran's efforts to revitalization their nuclear programs so compellingly dangerous that action must be taken. Friendly state Russia has stated that, from their perspective, Iran is headed to the UN [Russia's missile sales to Tehran, however, remain intact, and most nations don't want to talk about sanctions on the state].

This is familiar territory for Mr. Bush, of course. A year ago, he and former Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schroeder discussed Iran's efforts to further isolate themselves, trending toward even more extreme leadership, and even stated that military action was not off the table.

And 3 years ago, he and The Administration began building the case that Iraq was doing the same [and that sanctions weren't working to stop them], and went to war to back up his claims.

The fundamental difference, of course, is that his claims against Iraq have been shown to be, in their most noble form, completely naive, and in their most menacing form, completely fabricated.

And the problems with Iran, which have escalated and and continue escalating today in part because of the American Invasions and topplings of two of their neighboring countries, are entirely real.

Thus, the conundrum. Mr. Bush has a self-assumed responsibility toward protection from terrorism, and yet when he finds himself facing a state that has exhibited the intention to move toward a nuclear crisis, he finds himself lacking the capital [politically and financially] to support the strong actions he so desperately must desire.

So now he's talking about Diplomacy. A strange word coming from his mouth, indeed. Cute, but strange. Too bad you've exhausted us all with crisis after crisis, corruption, and the purest forms of domestic disconnect and betrayal. Because the impact of The Administration's political footholds have created a vacuum- leaving us all in more danger for when the next crisis comes.

And who knows when that will be... It may well be based in Tehran.
