Opposition and Powers
Our War on Terror with the Axis of Evil have maintained a steady keel of painful costs to Americans today. 4 more soldiers were killed in Iraq, massive explosions have targeted Iraqi police, and two US soldiers have been killed in escalating violence in Afghanistan, a region we still have not pacified with our exported Democracy.
And as cases such as Cindy Sheehan's now nationwide camp continue to invite debate, the President's ratings also continue to deflate. And the Heartland, long valued as that wide stretch of RedState Goodness, has begun to cool to the idea of Bush.
So the question becomes: How does the Opposition handle the current situation? How does the left bring a viable Democratic candidate forward, while supporting a counter-wave in the culture war based on true morality and ethical accountability? How do we bring forward a Candidate that allows us to also bring forward our cultural counter-claims to the right?
Armando at the dKos has some good thoughts: We stop preening our Democrats. None of this "Sure thing, Hillary, whatever you want, because we just want to win!" In fact, the last time that happened, our strongest, most vocalized candidate, Dean, was trampled; and we spent the entire time debating whether the guy that came forward was worth anything to us.
We pull our Candidates to the right side NOW. Any Candidate that wishes to get support from the left also must become a viable opponent to the war in Iraq.
Obviously, most of the Democrats voted to go to war in Iraq. The answer to this so-called problem?
They voted to go to war with the assurances of their President that A) there was just cause to worry about WMDs; B) that the war would not be costly and would last only as long as necessary; C) that the changes to the region would justify our choice.
Not one of these has come true. Why? Because The Administration lied us into a war. Any candidate that demonstrates his ability to articulate this: welcome.
