Administrative Denial
The White House refuses to consider pulling out of Iraq.
The idea of pulling out is, for the left two things: a fantastic political dream and a fantastic political trap. The Administration will stay the course because they know it's not politically viable for them not to. They don't give a fuck if they "send the wrong message to the Iraqi people" or if Iraq is ready for a full democracy. They have other purposes in mind. If they cared about either of those events coming forth in any meaningful way they would not have invaded.
They did truly think this would be a cakewalk- in and out, small forces, Rumsfeld's dream war. It didn't happen like that. It was a terrible idea, executed with excrutiating misjudgements, manipulations, and incompetencies, and shortcomings. And now, they're stuck in it. Dramatically and painfully stuck in it.
But because of that, they're not going to pull out. They can't; they have no choice.
I like when Republicans who forced Freedom Fries into our collective vocabulary because of their sudden disdain for the French backtrack like the reactionaries they are and suddenly demand a full pull-out of American troops from Iraq. I like it because it makes The Administration look like the idiots that they are and it exposes political hackery in our average Congress-folk.
What we have to convince people of, what must be communicated, is not simply that Iraq is going terribly wrong at great financial and emotional cost as well as the costs of the dead; we must remember to communicate the terrible reasons we went to an illegal war in the first place.

"The president's talked about how timetables send the wrong message," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said.Let's be honest here, Friends of the Left... pulling US troops out of Iraq would leave an even greater vacuum in the power structure of the nation; and without any sort of security force that is ready to face that vacuum we risk falling witness to a terrible civil war of which, without our direct intervention by going through with this ill-thought invasion, would never have occurred.
"It would send the wrong message to the terrorists and it would send the wrong message to the Iraqi people. They have shown they're committed to democracy and freedom, and we're going to stand with them to complete the mission," he said.
A new Gallup Poll shows that nearly six in 10 Americans say the United States should withdraw some or all of its troops from Iraq, up from 49 percent with that view in February, USA Today reported on Monday.
