Values

Kos has started a very intriguing thread discussing the need to identify the handful of very core values of the Democratic Party. The four core values that Kos has broken down further into issues-based analysis are:
Accountability

Privacy

Growth and Opportunity

American Leadership
Again, these are Kos' values, and the list that he has built after several revisions and discussions in the thread. Please see those posts for more information.

What he's doing is very interesting, though. Kos has a huge readership of potential Democratic activists. The AntiCentenarian does not have an overt political affiliation; we are simply a group doing some mediocre political and cultural analysis with liberal and international intentions.

Surely the Democrats need to identify these core values, and what better way that to engage in public discourse with the intent of building a values-index based on consensus? This is a genius tactic Kos undertakes. The goal is the method of decision: any Democrat should be able to use these values as a method of deciding how he or she should vote on any issue; and what better way to make a choice than with the consensus backing of those in the voting public who helped to determine exactly what those values are? It is a noble quest.

Jigga-

another thing I like about this approach is the possibilities it offers to voting congress members on a state and federal level. If an issue comes up they can say, well, how does this relate to this particular core value system that my constituents have identified? how does it relate to me? There's a built-in capacity for discussion, but as well as accountability. if a congress member votes for something completely off the wall without any method of relating it to the consensus-built value system, then they are open to criticism...

Or at least... some iteration of the above...
