Sexed Up

So MI6 decides, finally, after all of David Kay's statements, etc, to come clean about their intelligence concerning Iraqi weapons:
Barton alleges Howard 'spelt out' that Britain's preferred option was that a proposed 200-page ISG interim report should not be published at that stage. Barton claims the CIA overruled their UK counterparts. He alleges that after this Scarlett, then chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee, tried to get 'nuggets' placed into a shorter report to imply that Saddam did have a WMD programme.

According to Barton, these were based on old evidence that had been investigated and shown to be false. It is understood to include suggestions that Saddam was developing a smallpox weapon and using research to create a nuclear programme.

Barton added: 'The US has finally come to terms with the fact they got it dead wrong. The UK is lagging far behind. They still haven't come to terms with it.'
WhaowhoawhoawhoaWhoa...

The US has not come to terms. The American intelligence world may have faced some acceptance of this, but the Administration has done no reconciliation to this fact, and a third of the American public still thinks Saddam shot two four planes from Baghdad filled with Iraqi terrrrists clear across the world and into several of our buildings! Come to terms? I'm sorry, huge error in cultural judgement.

Interesting, as well, that the Hutton Report did so well at "clearing" the government for this, and that British intelligence agent David Kelley ended up committing suicide for saying that the British government "sexed up" the intelligence to project justification of the invasion.

And that's exactly what happened.

Anybody surprised by these exciting twists and turns? Or are we all, instead, simply disgusted?
