Relieving the Pinch

ChevronTexaco [which is a ginormous multinational oil company, for those who were unaware] has discovered, through their own investigative work, that their aid program in Africa has led to much more destruction and conflict than good because of the strong tribal and local tensions it has caused and fueled.

[in our salad-days, we would have called this, rather than multinational corporate humanitarian aid work: "colonialization." Western "civilization" has some resource need=> resource found in Africa=> divide local populations against themselves=> cause war => get resource=> exhaust resource or find it somewhere else [with less violence and conflict] => leave Africa in shambles => "civilization" discovers need for new resource => resource found in Africa...
