Alito's Hearings Next Year
The Prez is disappointed. He wants a conservative justice and he wants it now! Sandra Day O'Connor has retired upon selection of her replacement, which means that she'll be a sitting justice until Alito or any other justice is approved by the Senate, which means that A) our Supreme Court is still operable and B) Bush can't claim dire urgency for the voting process. But Bush is anxious.
Arlan Specter, however, doesn't think that Bush's immediate selectoin is necessary. He's a good guy- he wants to have enough time to examine the evidence, give Alito a fair hearing. And so, we'll be waiting until January for our new SCOTUS hearings. Tough luck, Mr. President.
